Audience: on-site check-in staff. Applies to: events that give attendees NFC wristbands, badges or cards.
When you assign a wristband, badge or card, the check-in app writes a new ID to it. If that fails, the app shows a message and the attendee keeps their old ticket or wristband. Find the message in the tables to see why, then try again or use a different wristband.
Messages from a profile or the Attendees screen
The Tap to assign: Name prompt stays open, so you can try again straight away.
| Message | Why | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Tag is read only | The wristband is locked and can't be changed. | Use a different wristband. |
| Tag too small for the selected fields | Write additional NFC records is on, and the extra details don't fit. | Use a larger tag, or turn the setting off: see Check-in app settings. |
| Tag is not NDEF capable | This type of tag can't store Delekit's data. | Use NFC tags that can store NDEF data. |
| An error has occurred. Please try again. | The wristband moved away before the write finished. | Hold it flat and still against the device until Tag assigned to Name appears. |
| Written, but backend update failed | The wristband was written, but the app couldn't save the new ID for the attendee. The wristband won't work. | Assign the same wristband again. |
Messages from Assign Tag on a QR scan result
The prompt closes after each attempt. Select Assign Tag again to retry.
| Message | What to do |
|---|---|
| Error: tag not writable | Use a different wristband. |
| Error: tag too small | Use a larger tag. |
| Tag not assigned — please try again | Select Assign Tag and hold the wristband still for longer. If it fails again, use a different one. |
Nothing happens when you hold the wristband
- Check NFC is turned on in the device's Android settings.
- Move the wristband slowly across the back of the device to find the reader. It's usually in the middle, near the camera.
- Check the prompt is still open. Without it, holding a wristband to the device does nothing.
