Audience: event organisers planning check-in. Applies to: events using the Delekit check-in app.
The Delekit check-in app runs on Android phones and tablets that have NFC and a rear camera with autofocus, running Android 10 or later. Use this list to choose or hire devices, and to check the ones you have before the event.
What each device needs
| Need | Why |
|---|---|
| Android 10 or later | The app isn't offered to older versions. It isn't available for iPhone or iPad. |
| NFC | Needed for wristbands, badges and cards, and to open any scan screen. On a device without it, the scan screens close with This device doesn't support NFC. Google Play doesn't offer the app to devices with no NFC. |
| A rear camera with autofocus | QR Scan uses the rear camera. Google Play doesn't offer the app to devices without a camera with autofocus. |
| Google Play | The app is installed and updated from Google Play, so the device needs a Google account. See Download the check-in app. |
| An internet connection | Wi-Fi or mobile data, to sign in, download the event and send scans. Scanning carries on without one: see The check-in app shows Offline. |
| A speaker | Each scan plays one sound when it's valid and another when there's a problem. The wristband scan screen sets the media volume to 75%. |
How many devices
There's no limit. Install the app on as many devices as you need, and open the same session on each one. See Use several devices at one session.
Each device is identified by its own Android device ID. A QR scan result shows it after Scanned On This Device or Scanned on Another Device, so you can tell which device made the first scan.
Phones or tablets
Both work. The app's screens are shown in portrait, so a tablet is held upright. A phone is easier to hold out to an attendee; a tablet on a stand at a desk is easier for searching by name.
While a session's attendee list or a scan screen is open, the app keeps the screen on, so plan for chargers at a busy desk.
Wristbands, badges and cards
- Use NFC tags that can store NDEF data and aren't locked. The app writes a new ID to the tag when you assign it to someone. See Assign a wristband to an attendee.
- With Write additional NFC records turned on in the app's Settings, the app also writes the event's code, the attendee's name and the first additional column, so the tag needs more space. See Check-in app settings.
- Find each device's NFC reader before the event. It's usually in the middle of the back, near the camera.
Before the event
- Install the app and sign in on every device.
- Open your event so its sessions and attendees download.
- Scan a test ticket and a test wristband on each device.
- Check each device's volume and battery.
