Movement tracking: the overview

Modified on Mon, 2 Nov at 2:01 PM

Audience: client administrators and event administrators. Applies to: events where Delekit has turned on movement tracking (in beta).

Movement tracking follows attendees' tracking badges from area to area of your venue, so you can see where people went, how long they stayed and when each area was busiest. It's in beta, and only Delekit can turn it on for an event: until then, none of its pages appear.

How to get movement tracking

  • Ask Delekit. Contact Delekit support or your account manager with the event you'd like tracked. Only Delekit staff can turn it on, for one event at a time.
  • Each attendee needs a tracking badge linked to their record. See Assign a BLE badge.
  • Once it's on, you'll find Movement overview in Insights in the menu, a Movement section on each attendee's record, and Check in by location on your sessions.

The Movement overview page

In the menu, select Insights, then Movement overview. It shows the movement for one time window, in event time: the event's time zone, wherever you are. Choose a Date, a From and To time, then select Update figures. Or select Today so far, Morning (08:00 to 12:00), Lunch (12:00 to 14:00), Afternoon (14:00 to 18:00) or Last 15 minutes.

The figures for the window:

Figure What it shows
Active attendees How many people were seen in the window
Room changes How many times people moved from one area to another
Median dwell The typical time spent in an area, in minutes, across all areas
Most visited area The area with the most visits, and how many
Busiest 15 minutes The busiest quarter of an hour in the window: its count, and From the time it started

The page also has three cards:

  • Event flow charts where people moved. Flow shows how many people Arrived in and Left each area. Occupancy shows how many people were in an Area (or All areas) through the window, in 5-minute steps. Top journeys shows the most common moves from one area to another.
  • Highlights lists insights for your reporting, written for you from the window's figures.
  • Top journeys lists the moves between areas (From, To) with how many Transitions each had.

If a chart says there's no data, widen the time range.

On an attendee's record

The Movement section of an attendee's record shows one day at a time, in the event's time zone. Choose the Day, then select Refresh. It shows their Linked tag, when and where they were Last seen, their Total tracked time, and a Timeline of where they were seen, room by room. Copy summary copies it as text and Download JSON saves the data.

No movement data for this day means they weren't seen that day. Try a different day, or check the attendee has a tag assigned.

Check in by location

With movement tracking on, a session's Check-in section has Check in by location. Attendees detected in the session's Linked zones during the session are checked in automatically. Two settings make it stricter:

  • Minimum dwell time (seconds): how long someone must be detected before they count.
  • Minimum signal strength (RSSI): optional. Only detections stronger than this count. Values are negative: -60 is stronger than -80. Broad area (-82), Standard room (-78) and Strict room (-72) fill in a starting value, and What should I set? explains them.

Common questions

Why can't I see Movement overview? Movement tracking isn't on for this event. Ask Delekit to turn it on.

Can I turn it off again? Ask Delekit. The pages disappear again when it's off.

Still stuck? Contact Delekit support.
