Audience: event organisers and the people setting up check-in desks. Applies to: events that print badges with the Delekit Check-in Desk kiosk app.
Connect each kiosk to its Zebra badge printer, tell it which badge stock is loaded, calibrate the printer and print a test badge. Once the test badge comes out right, every check-in badge does too.
Before you start
- Use a Zebra badge printer, connected to the kiosk by USB cable, on the same network, or by Bluetooth. A cable is best: use Bluetooth only if there's no cable. Bluetooth printing needs a printer with Classic Bluetooth.
- Load the badge stock (and a ribbon, if your printer uses one), and switch the printer on.
- The badge design comes from your check-in profile, which Delekit sets up. To change the design or the badge size, ask Delekit support.
- You reach these screens after Connect your scanner while you set the kiosk up. Later, open the organiser screen, select the status strip to open Kiosk settings, then select Set up printer in Printer.
Set up the printer
- On Choose your printer, in Which printer?, select the printer for this kiosk. Printers on a cable are listed first. Then select Continue.
- On What's loaded in the printer?, select the badge stock that's loaded. The event's badge is picked for you. Select Continue.
- On Calibrate, select Set up & calibrate. When it says the settings are saved, hold PAUSE and CANCEL on the printer together for 2 seconds, so it learns the stock. Then select Continue.
- On Test badge, turn on Use cutter if the printer has a cutter.
- Select Print test badge. It prints exactly what a check-in prints.
- Check where the design sits and where the cut lands. Adjust Print position (mm) and Cut position (mm), then print again until it's right.
- Select Done. The kiosk goes on to Ready to go?, where the Printer row shows the printer and its status.
A printer with its own set-up menu, such as the Zebra ZD621, can manage the stock itself. On Calibrate, turn on Printer handles media setup and follow the steps it shows on the printer's menu. You then set the print and cut positions on the printer, not the kiosk.
Add a printer that isn't listed
- On the network: select Enter IP address for a network printer, enter the Printer address (IP or IP:port) and select Use this address.
- Bluetooth: select Enter Bluetooth address. Enter the address from the printer's Bluetooth menu or configuration label, and its PIN if it has one, then select Pair and use. Accept it if Windows or the printer asks you to confirm.
- On a USB cable but not listed: its Windows driver may not be installed yet. Select Download printer drivers, install the driver, then select Search again.
What happens next
- The kiosk remembers the calibration for this printer and stock, so next time Continue skips Calibrate. Select Calibrate in the steps to do it again if you change to a different roll, move or service the printer, or badges start drifting.
- The kiosk keeps an eye on the printer. The organiser screen shows its status, and names a problem such as Media out, Ribbon out or Head open.
- In Kiosk settings, Printer position says where the printer sits, so the welcome screen's arrow points attendees to it.
Check it works
On Ready to go?, select Print test badge. Or check in a test attendee once check-in has started: their badge should print with the right details, cut in the right place.
If something isn't right
- No printers found: check the cable and power, then select Search again.
- Nothing came out: select Nothing came out?. Check the stock is loaded, the print head is closed and the ribbon is fitted, then select Calibrate and print another test.
- The badge design is a different size from the loaded card: pick the stock that's loaded. If the design is wrong, ask Delekit to change it.
- This event has no badge template: ask Delekit support to add one to the check-in profile, then select Refresh roster in Kiosk settings.
- Bluetooth is turned off on this kiosk: turn it on in Windows Settings › Bluetooth & devices, check Airplane mode is off, then select Pair and use again.
