Assign a wristband to an attendee

Modified on Fri, 30 Oct at 8:50 AM

Audience: event organisers and on-site check-in staff. Applies to: events that give attendees NFC wristbands, badges or cards.

Link an NFC wristband, badge or card to an attendee from their profile in the check-in app. The app writes a new ID to the wristband, and from then on the wristband checks them in.

Before you start

  • Use blank or rewritable NFC wristbands. Locked or read-only tags can't be written.
  • Check the app's settings first. With Write additional NFC records turned on, the app also writes the event code, the attendee's name and their first additional column, which needs a larger tag. The setting is in My Events, in the menu, under Settings.
  • Assigning a wristband replaces the ID in the attendee's e-ticket. Their emailed QR code stops working, so they use the wristband from then on.

Assign the wristband

  1. Find the attendee in a session's list, or in the sessions list menu select Attendees to search the whole event.

  2. Select their name to open their profile, then select Assign Tag.

Attendee profile, with Assign Tag outlined

  3. When Tap to assign: Name appears, hold the wristband flat against the back of the device.

Tap to assign prompt, showing what will be written to the wristband

  4. Keep it there until Tag assigned to Name appears.

Confirmation that the wristband was assigned to the attendee

What happens next

  • Tag Assigned is ticked on the profile, and the QR code on the profile changes to the new ID.
  • The new ID is sent to Delekit straight away, or at the next sync if the device is offline. On the web, the attendee's record shows Tag assigned as Yes, and the old ID moves to Tag history.
  • Any scans the attendee already has stay with them.
  • If the attendee had a wristband before, the old one stops working.

Check it works

Open the session, select Scan Tag and scan the wristband. Valid Scan should show the attendee's name.

If something isn't right

  • Tag is read only, Tag too small for the selected fields or Tag is not NDEF capable: use a different wristband. The prompt stays open so you can try again.
  • An error has occurred. Please try again.: hold the wristband still for longer, then try again.
  • You need to tag a whole group: in the sessions list menu, select Attendees, then select Assign Tag on the first person. The app moves on to the next person after each wristband.
